Stage 2a of the $318.18 million Barwon Heads Road upgrade is on track to open mid next year, six months ahead of schedule. The work between Reserve Road in Charlemont and Lake Road in Armstrong Creek adds extra lanes, shared walking and cycling paths, and upgraded intersections. Major work on Stage 2b, from Lake Road to the Lower Duneed Road roundabout in Connewarre, begins in November. Federal and Victorian governments are funding the project. Officials say the upgrades will ease congestion for the 44,000 vehicles expected daily by 2031.
Penrith City Council will consider a $72 million construction contract for the first stage of the Dunheved Road upgrade at its Monday night meeting. The council has split the 4.2km Werrington project into three stages after a funding shortfall. It says it lacks the money to complete the second and third stages and has formally requested more federal funding. The federal government committed $127 million in 2020, but work has yet to start. The council's report also says it will accept contractor Georgiou Group's pricing for the later stages if extra funding is secured.

Residents say St Marys Pass, a winding six-kilometre road in Tasmania, is unsafe for modern traffic. Scamander resident Sandra French said falling rocks and close calls with heavy trucks have frightened drivers. Building Tasmania has costed seven options, ranging from $50 million to $2.7 billion. It backs the cheapest, a $50 million to $70 million upgrade of the existing road. State Infrastructure Minister Kerry Vincent said alterations to the current road are the most sensible choice, but funding is not yet secured.
A $4.49 million safety upgrade to Old Yanchep Road in Wanneroo is moving ahead after government funding was approved. The City of Wanneroo accepted the money last month, and work is expected to begin this financial year. Plans include widening and sealing the road shoulders and installing audible edge and centre lines. Between 2021 and 2025, 35 crashes were reported along the road, four of them causing hospitalisation. The city expects to finish the project across the 2026-27 and 2027-28 financial years.
