Marc Marquez won the Tissot Sprint at Phillip Island, the last MotoGP to be held at the circuit. He finished 0.323 seconds ahead of his brother Alex, with Ducati taking the top three places. Jorge Martin crashed out on lap eight with a fractured wrist and now trails Marquez by 10 points in the championship. Heavy rain on Sunday forced organisers to abandon the day's racing for rider safety, and the Moto2 and Moto3 races did not run. The next round is at Sepang in Malaysia from October 30 to November 1.
Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix from pole position, all but sealing his maiden F1 drivers' championship. The 20-year-old Mercedes driver finished more than 13 seconds clear of his rivals. Antonelli leads George Russell by 123 points and Lewis Hamilton by 124, with 125 points still available from the final five rounds. Antonelli can clinch the title at the Mexico City Grand Prix next week with a ninth-place finish or better, unless Russell or Hamilton wins the race. Charles Leclerc finished second and Max Verstappen third.
Kimi Antonelli has claimed pole position for the United States Grand Prix, beating Max Verstappen by 0.179 seconds. The 20-year-old Italian could become Formula One's youngest world champion if he wins Monday's race, AEST, and results go his way. Ferrari, which led all three practice sessions, again struggled in qualifying. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc qualified fourth and fifth, while Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finished seventh and eighth. Antonelli holds a 102-point lead in the championship.

The small south-west Western Australian town of Nannup has hosted an elite gravel cycling world championship, the first to be held outside Europe. Nearly 1,000 competitors raced over two days on courses of up to 144 kilometres through the Blackwood Valley. Dutch rider Marianne Vos won the elite women's title, while Denmark's Magnus Bak Klaris took the men's crown. Accommodation in the town of about 1,000 people was fully booked, and local cafe owner Hayley Rubery said her takings rose sharply on the busiest day she could recall.
