Drivers travelling between Armidale and the coast on Waterfall Way should allow extra time from Monday, 26 October, to Sunday, 8 November. Transport for NSW says a string of maintenance jobs and projects may cause cumulative delays, with some sections of up to 10 minutes. Vehicles wider than 3 metres face restrictions on parts of the route, and a permit is needed. Motorists can follow signs and directions from traffic controllers, or use alternative routes including the Oxley Highway, Gwydir Highway or New England Highway.
The NSW government plans to trial new technology to warn motorists of lengthy delays at the Adamstown railway crossing in Newcastle. The Hunter will be the first region in NSW to receive the digital warning system, which will give drivers advance notice of extended closures so they can choose another route. Electronic signs will be placed near the intersections of Brunker Road and Bridges Road, and are expected to be operational by early 2027. The system will link crossing equipment to the local traffic signal controller, triggering warnings when boom gates stay down for an extended period.

Work will run Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 5:00pm, and is expected to finish by early November 2026.
