Council's Recyclopedia waste and recycling app will be replaced by a new app, Looped in Council, from Monday 2 November 2026. The new app will keep the same features, including the bin collection calendar, an A-Z of waste, recycling and general waste information, and disposal facility details. Over the coming week, users of the old app will see a pop-up message with instructions for switching. The new app can also be downloaded directly.
Volunteers with NICA's River Rangers have removed an estimated four tonnes of rubbish from Noosa's waterways over the past eight months. The team has run 16 clean-ups across the Noosa River estuary and nearby waters, with four volunteers working four hours each time. Hazards found include a refrigerator submerged just below the surface, large furniture, tangled nets and abandoned inflatables. Rubbish volumes stay fairly steady week to week, but waste such as bait bags, fishing gear and food containers rises sharply after holiday periods.
Coles has installed a wheel-locking system on its trolleys at its Casino store in mid-September. The system stops trolleys at a boundary set by the supermarket. Casino residents had long asked for the measure. Two years ago, Ben West said he and a friend had collected more than 60 shopping trolleys from the Richmond River since 2014, many of them from Coles. A Coles spokesperson said the company regularly reviews its trolley management and considers local feedback. Coles did not explain why it decided to fit the system at this time.

An Altona North resident has suggested demolishing Borrack Square because of repeated illegal rubbish dumping. Geoff Mitchelmore, a former Hobsons Bay Citizen of the Year, said a recent pile of rubbish stayed on the McArthurs Road side for almost a month. He also pointed to the loss of the centre's Woolworths supermarket in 2024 and three shooting incidents this year. Mr Mitchelmore said shopkeepers' dumping and council inaction were the main concerns. Hobsons Bay council said the rubbish had been collected, acknowledged residents' frustration, and is reviewing options to prevent repeat dumping.
