NILLUMBIK: Lighting problem on Yan Yean Rd

Northern Victoria MLC Wendy Lovell has called for better lighting on Yan Yean Rd to improve safety during stage 2 road construction works. Lanes are being closed and realigned, and the road is now considerably narrower. Motorists say it has become hard to see where to drive at night along the stretch near Yarrambat Golf Club, between Ironbark Rd and Jorgensen Avenue. Liberal candidate for Yan Yean Amanda Dow has heard from residents who are concerned about safety after several recent accidents.

Threatened bats gone, West Dapto Road works due to finish by Christmas

West Dapto Road is expected to reopen to traffic by Christmas, six months behind schedule. The delay was mainly caused by a colony of threatened microbats found in a stormwater culvert, which halted work in May. A Microbat Management Plan was put in place in September, and the bats have since moved on, allowing work to resume. Wollongong City Council says more than 86 per cent of the works needed to reopen the road are complete. Some residents remain unconvinced and have called for rate relief and greater transparency.

Intersection upgrade brings traffic changes

Motorists travelling between Flagstone, Riverbend and South Maclean should expect traffic changes. Logan City Council is upgrading the Homestead Drive, Teviot Road and Glynton Road intersection. Works are underway to realign the junction, add traffic lights, turning lanes and a slip lane, and improve drainage. The upgrade will connect to the new Teviot Road extension and support growth in Greater Flagstone. Temporary lane closures, reduced speed limits and delays are expected during construction, with electronic message boards providing updates as work progresses.
