Council Begins $100,000 Road And Footpath Repair Blitz

Ararat Rural City Council has begun a four-week program of road and footpath repairs across the municipality, investing about $100,000. The works include patching, dig-out repairs and spray sealing on local roads, lanes and footpaths, at sites including Red Hill Road, Geelong Road and Frontage Road. Chief Executive Officer Phuong Au said the program reflects the council's ongoing maintenance commitment, with a further repair blitz planned around Easter next year. Residents can report road and footpath damage through the Snap Send Solve app, and reports will now receive updates better linked to the council's repair processes.

Filling potholes and sealing cracks

Northern Beaches Council says its crews have filled 3,162 potholes since 1 July. Crews have also sealed 13,305 linear metres of cracks across 15 streets and completed 6,990 square metres of heavy patching at 39 locations. Major renewal works have been completed in Dee Why, Clontarf and Balgowlah, with a further 100,000 square metres of road renewal due before the end of the financial year. McIntosh Road in Dee Why was resurfaced over a gas main using a specialised geogrid, which the council says extends the road's life at a fraction of full reconstruction cost.

Bypassed by Bureaucracy: Farmers Warn Red Tape Could Stall Emergency Far West Road Repairs

Farmers in NSW's Far West say strict government rules could stall a plan to use local machinery to repair washed-out dirt roads. Transport for NSW plans to hire isolated landholders as private contractors through a formal tender process. Delays have been linked to safety requirements, including a dedicated on-site safety supervisor. Prolonged closures on the region's 2,800-kilometre unsealed road network have disrupted livestock transport and tourism. Producer groups are calling for an emergency model that would let nearby farmers clear washouts immediately.
