MotoGP 2026: The final roar

Marc Marquez won the Tissot Sprint at Phillip Island, the last MotoGP to be held at the circuit. He finished 0.323 seconds ahead of his brother Alex, with Ducati taking the top three places. Jorge Martin crashed out on lap eight with a fractured wrist and now trails Marquez by 10 points in the championship. Heavy rain on Sunday forced organisers to abandon the day's racing for rider safety, and the Moto2 and Moto3 races did not run. The next round is at Sepang in Malaysia from October 30 to November 1.

Weather ruins MotoGP but Phillip Island goes out on high

The final MotoGP race on Phillip Island was cancelled on Sunday due to rain and poor visibility, after fans waited through delays all day. The event had been held on the Victorian island since 1989. Fans travelled from across the country for the farewell, and local businesses were busy after a quiet winter. Rosa Scarlato, the race's number one ticketholder, said the loss would be felt by the whole island. Riders and fans still shared one last roar before the circuit's final weekend ended.

Soggy, sad end of an era to Phillip Island MotoGP racing

Persistent rain at Phillip Island forced organisers to cancel Sunday's MotoGP race, ending the circuit's 30-year run as host of the Australian round. Race director Graham Webber said the medical helicopter needed clear weather at both the circuit and Melbourne, because the hospital is more than 45 minutes away by road. Organisers announced the cancellation of the Moto2 and Moto3 races as well. Riders completed a farewell parade lap behind the safety car, stopping on the main straight to greet fans. Jack Miller, who had hoped for a podium finish in his final event there, did not get one.

Kangaroo campaigners take aim at MotoGP leathers

Wildlife campaigners want kangaroo leather banned from motorcycle racing and will press their case at Phillip Island's final MotoGP this weekend. Advocacy groups Kangaroos Alive and LAV will campaign trackside and in Cowes on Saturday, marking World Kangaroo Day. They want leading manufacturers, including Alpinestars and Dainese, to switch to animal-free materials by 2027. The campaigners say synthetic suits pass the same safety tests. Adelaide hosts the event from 2027.
