Council Letter ‘Shocks’ BYV Team

The project director for the Glan Devon bio-fertiliser plant says the group was caught off guard when told its development application had lapsed. Rusty Mark said South Burnett Regional Council first called the group on Thursday night, with written notice following on Friday. He said the group had been working to a timeline it believed all parties understood. The project team was preparing a response to state government queries, including a complete redesign, when the letter arrived. Mr Mark said the project remains committed to the South Burnett and is weighing its options.

‘Error’ Blamed For Bio-Fertiliser Lapse

The team behind the proposed Glan Devon Bio-Fertiliser Project has blamed an administrative error for the lapse of its development application, but says it will press ahead. South Burnett Regional Council told BYV Organics the application had lapsed because public notification did not begin within the required period. The developers say the confusion arose from several stop clock applications lodged from June 2026. They say they remain committed to the project and are assessing their options. The plant would turn biosolids into fertiliser on a site about 12km north of Nanango, where residents have protested.

Hungry Jack’s proposal generates plenty of heat in Molonglo

A proposed Hungry Jack’s restaurant and drive-thru in the Koko Molonglo development in Wright has drawn strong community reaction. The developer, PK Nominees, has lodged a development application for a single-storey, 38-seat restaurant on the corner of Steve Irwin Avenue and Gornall Street, opposite Wright Children’s Park. Residents have raised concerns about traffic, litter, noise and possible anti-social behaviour. Some support the plan, saying it would bring local jobs and affordable food options. Campbelltown’s Panjo: Plans lodged to demolish, revive complex

A half-built entertainment complex in Leumeah, southwest Sydney, could soon be demolished to make way for a new centre. A demolition development application was filed with Campbelltown Council late last month, shortly after the site was sold earlier this year. The building, known locally as Panjo, has been left unfinished for more than a decade after its developer ran out of money. The site's agent says the new owners plan to restore the original concept, which would need an estimated $20m-$30m in works.

Stock refuge mound approved for Nelsons Plains despite traffic concerns

Port Stephens Council has unanimously approved a 5500 square metre flood mound on Nobles Road, Nelsons Plains, near Raymond Terrace. The mound will serve as a high-ground refuge for livestock during floods. Councillors considered its effects on flooding and drainage before approving the development application. Councillor Giacomo Arnott raised concerns about heavy truck traffic on the narrow road. His amendment requires any road damage caused by trucks to be repaired and limits truck stops on the road to five minutes. Councillors also acknowledged the mound's visual impact on the landscape.

Young developer’s North Griffith housing plan faces neighbour’s privacy objection

A neighbour has objected to a plan to build two new homes behind an existing house in North Griffith, citing privacy, noise and traffic. Griffith City Council staff have recommended approval, and councillors will vote on the application on Tuesday 13 October. The developer, 20-year-old university student Taksheer Chugha, said he plans to rent out the homes in an area short of accommodation near the hospital. The proposal comes amid ongoing debate over where new housing should go in Griffith.

Sonia Kruger’s $16m home battle takes new turn

Sonia Kruger and partner Craig McPherson have submitted amended development plans to Mosman Council for their $16 million Sydney home overhaul. The couple's earlier plans were refused by the Mosman Local Planning Panel in July on five grounds. The revised design lowers the building height to 9.1 metres, which still exceeds the council's 8.5 metre standard. Neighbours remain opposed over privacy and blocked views, and public submissions are open until October 21.

McDonald’s approved for Roseberry Street on Manly Vale Balgowlah border

McDonald's has won its Land and Environment Court appeal and can build a restaurant at 37 Roseberry Street, Balgowlah, on the site of Seven Miles Coffee. The Northern Beaches Local Planning Panel had unanimously refused the application in July 2025, which drew 740 submissions, with only two in support. After a conciliation conference attended by about 70 residents, McDonald's agreed to build a mini roundabout at the Roseberry and Hayes Street intersection and widen a median island for pedestrians. Northern Beaches Council said its concerns were resolved. The court formally approved the revised plans on Thursday, 8 October.

Woolloomooloo site earmarked for 15 social homes

Work is moving ahead on a plan to construct 15 social dwellings on a government-owned parcel in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, which has sat empty since an earlier redevelopment bid collapsed in 1989. Homes NSW intends to provide 13 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units near transport, jobs and everyday services. Before lodging a development application with the City of Sydney in December 2026, the agency is seeking local views through a survey open until 30 October 2026, with findings feeding a Social Impact Report. A photography contest may also supply artwork for the scheme.
