Construction has officially begun on a $22.7 million fire station in Yanchep, Western Australia. Work started at 128 Yanchep Beach Road on October 22, and the station is expected to be ready by early 2029. It will be staffed by 36 full-time firefighters. Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby said the facility will improve emergency response across the northern corridor and support local volunteer brigades. Butler MLA Lorna Clarke said career firefighters were important for the area, where summers bring hotter weather and bushfires.
Trains on Perth's Yanchep and Mandurah lines were delayed on Wednesday morning after a technical issue disrupted peak-hour services. The problem affected Yanchep Line trains and caused knock-on delays on the Mandurah Line. Services are still running, but trains are not keeping to their usual timetables. Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time, as delayed trains may miss connections with scheduled bus and train services. The delays were announced shortly before 7.35am.
Aaron and Anna Larkin, who moved to Melbourne from Wales, bought a house in Yanchep on a 2022 holiday to Perth. They had not planned to buy property, but saw an open home sign while visiting the lagoon with their sons. The family had earlier featured in the BBC series Wanted Down Under. The four-bedroom home on a 941sqm block is listed with offers from $1,199,000. Selling agent Jayne Mitchell says professionals from Perth's western suburbs are buying Yanchep properties as holiday homes.

A $4.49 million safety upgrade to Old Yanchep Road in Wanneroo is moving ahead after government funding was approved. The City of Wanneroo accepted the money last month, and work is expected to begin this financial year. Plans include widening and sealing the road shoulders and installing audible edge and centre lines. Between 2021 and 2025, 35 crashes were reported along the road, four of them causing hospitalisation. The city expects to finish the project across the 2026-27 and 2027-28 financial years.
The City of Wanneroo council has voted to award contracts to upgrade 39 parks across the city, from Koondoola to Yanchep. Almost $3 million will be spent on new play equipment, softfall and shade sails. New playgrounds will be built at 25 parks, rubber softfall added at seven, and shade sails installed at a further seven. Nine contractors will carry out the work, which is expected to start later this year and continue over the next 12 months.
Children can join free hut-building activities at Yanchep National Park on October 24. The Spring into Yanchep event, run by Educated by Nature, will teach kids to design and build shelters using natural materials. Participants will learn knot-tying skills and explore early Australian pioneer shelters. The WA Parks Foundation event encourages families to explore the park's trails, koalas, and other attractions. Park entry fees apply, and registration is required for the hut-building activity.
