Firearms licence holders in NSW can now book through the Gun Safe portal to surrender eligible guns and ammunition for compensation. The scheme officially starts on 2 November and is expected to see up to 274,000 firearms returned in the state. It follows the Bondi Beach terror attack earlier this year, in which 15 people were killed. Only Sutherland and Penrith police stations take bookings in the first phase, with more stations opening later in November and in 2027. Police Minister Yasmin Catley said fewer guns in the community mean a safer community.

Bodycam footage from a Sydney anti-Isaac Herzog protest has been aired in the Downing Centre local court. The video shows an officer running at Wenzel Auch and pushing him to the ground, which his lawyer described as an unlawful use of force. Auch was charged with assaulting police, but that charge was withdrawn in August. Lawyers for 17 protesters are seeking internal police documents ahead of a joint trial due in July 2027. Police have dropped charges against 11 individuals in total, and intend to challenge a ruling requiring them to release the documents.

An inquiry into a Sydney rally against Israeli president Isaac Herzog's visit has so far found protesters were largely peaceful. Counsel assisting the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission said there was limited evidence of physical violence by protesters. The commission is examining police use of OC spray, alleged police boasting about gratuitous force, and a prayer incident involving Muslim worshippers. Police charged 30 people after the February protest, but almost a dozen charges have since been withdrawn. Private examinations are set to run for five weeks.
