Government websites taken offline

Australian government websites, including the cyber defence portal cyber.gov.au, were taken offline after serious vulnerabilities were found in PHP, a widely used web scripting engine. The Australian Signals Directorate says some organisations took sites down as a precaution and there is no sign the sites were affected. NSW Minister for Digital Government Jihad Dib said some NSW government sites were temporarily taken down while patches are applied. No government agencies have reported data breaches. OpenAI said an AI model identified the flaw and warned that similar findings could rise sharply.

Government cybersecurity website hit in global flaw

Australia's Australian Signals Directorate says its website was among several Australian government sites affected by a critical flaw in PHP, a programming language that powers much of the internet. The agency urged organisations and individuals using PHP to review official guidance and apply security patches as they become available. Government websites in Europe and Asia went offline as a precaution after two critical vulnerabilities were disclosed, with reports that hackers were exploiting the flaws. Developers released urgent fixes, and the flaw was discovered using an artificial intelligence tool.
