Wet weather and flash flooding update – 23 October

City of Moreton Bay is urging residents to stay alert this weekend as more showers and storms are forecast for Saturday. Parts of the city received more than 270mm of rain in 24 hours, causing flash flooding and road closures. As of 10am, 34 council roads and five state-controlled roads were closed. Forty-eight streets were without waste collection due to flooding. Residents are told to avoid flooded roads, and the Groovin' in the Green event on Sunday 25 October has been cancelled.

Temporary bulk waste closure at Fremantle Recycling Centre

The bulk waste area at Fremantle Recycling Centre will close temporarily from Friday 30 October for upgrade works. It is due to reopen on Friday 13 November 2026, while other areas stay open as usual. Residents of the City of Fremantle and Town of East Fremantle are asked to keep their bulk waste until then. Anyone arriving with general bulk junk during the closure must take it home. Residents of both councils can instead book a Verge Valet collection or use the City of Cockburn's landfill facility, where fees apply.

Kerbside collection delay, Dysart

Residents in Dysart have been told that kerbside waste collection is running late and may not be finished on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. Council is asking households to keep their bins out on the kerb until the trucks arrive. The holdup stems from staffing problems at the contractor handling the service. Council has apologised for the disruption and thanked residents for their understanding while the work is rescheduled.
