Nelson Bay Football Club's under-16 boys team has won the Newcastle inter-district grand final championship and the club's Most Distinguished Team Award. The season was marked by the sudden death of respected coach and parent Andy McKenzie, who had a 12-year connection with the club. The grand final against Cooks Hill finished 1-all after full time, before Nelson Bay scored in extra time. Goalkeeper Logan Parmigiani then made a late save to seal the win. Coach Chris Farrell said the team dedicated the victory to McKenzie.
Communications Minister Anika Wells says the under-16 social media ban has seen five million accounts deactivated, but enforcement is still under way. She said the eSafety Commissioner is investigating five platforms and may take them to court. Wells introduced the Digital Duty of Care Bill last week, which would require online platforms to protect Australians from seriously harmful and illegal content. She said the bill is not about what people say online.
Communications Minister Anika Wells has been named on Time magazine's list of 100 influential rising stars. The recognition comes as the government's social media ban for under-16s draws international attention. The ban has proved difficult to enforce in Australia. The government has also promised that Australians will be able to opt out of social media algorithms under its upcoming Digital Duty of Care.

Communications Minister Anika Wells says the Coalition is worried about One Nation and that she remains open to amendments to the online safety bill. She argues the bill would make tech platforms assess risks on their services, backed by higher fines. Wells says she is considering Greens proposals for higher penalties and a private right to sue. She also said her 2025 Adelaide trip was fully disclosed to the expenses authority, which audited it.
