Toppled colonial statue replaced by 'ring of truth telling'

A native garden surrounded by a bronze "ring of truth-telling" has replaced a colonial statue of William Crowther in Hobart's Franklin Square. Vandals cut the statue down in 2024. The City of Hobart unveiled the new installation, which carries three written pieces about Crowther, William Lanne and statues. Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the project reveals a fuller history of the city. Some councillors and protesters opposed the replacement, and the original statue is in storage.
