Preorders for the Microduck robots have passed 20,000 units, according to Hugging Face's Clem Delangue. The waddling, open source robots went viral after a video showed Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang playing with them during a keynote at the GTC Berlin conference. The robots can sit, nap, and somersault on voice command. They are expected to be delivered in time for Christmas. Pollen Robotics produces the devices, and Hugging Face acquired the company in 2025. Nvidia bought Hugging Face in September.
LEGO has announced a partnership with French electronic duo Daft Punk, covering sets, sounds and short films. The first confirmed product is a set based on the duo's 2007 Alive pyramid stage, which was used on their tour and recorded for their live album. The set idea came from a fan, Patrick Harboun, and his son, who developed it during COVID lockdown and submitted it to LEGO's Music to Our Ears challenge in 2020. It won the Grand Prize and will now officially go into development, with more information due next year.
Wired's writers have picked Lego gifts for brick builders, ranging from Formula 1 and Star Wars sets to a Batman video game. The list also includes a Peanuts Snoopy doghouse set, a Star Wars advent calendar and a Star Trek light kit. Smaller gifts include a notepad, playing cards and a ceramic Lego head mug. The writers say the sets suit children and adults alike, and some can double as display pieces or centrepieces.
