Archaeologists find treasure trove of ancient artefacts in Juukan Gorge

Archaeologists working at Juukan Gorge in the West Australian Pilbara have collected 50,000 artefacts from the site. The team, led by Michael Slack, says Aboriginal people have occupied the site for more than 50,000 years. The rock shelter was destroyed in a mining blast by Rio Tinto in 2020, prompting international condemnation. Traditional owners say the finds strengthen their connection to the place and help them heal. The PKKP plans to reconstruct the rock shelter, which is unlikely to become a tourist attraction.

Coles Currambine ranked best in WA and seventh in Australia

Coles Currambine is the best-rated Coles store in Western Australia and seventh-best in the country, based on Google reviews. The store averages 4.34 stars out of 5 from 271 reviews. Seobacklinks.com compiled the rankings from 830 Coles supermarkets and local stores that were operating and had at least 200 Google reviews. Ratings were calculated from individual star counts rather than Google's rounded scores. Seobacklinks.com founder Oliver Weston said newer, larger stores with ample parking, clean aisles and friendly staff tend to rank highest.

Weipa dancers take first step towards Samoa with fundraising concert

A Weipa dance troupe is holding a fundraising concert to help eight dancers travel to Samoa for a performance next June. The Penina O Pasifika concert on 23 October will mix traditional dance with audience participation, including a dance-off and Pacific games. Group leader Lita Mahy said three of the selected dancers had visited Samoa last year, and the trip had strongly influenced their performances. The concert runs from 5 to 7pm at the Weipa Storm Surge Shelter, with a $5 cash entry fee and a donation dish for further support.
