Stirling mayor appeals to Federal Government as 60-year-old Innaloo post office faces closure today

The City of Stirling is asking the Federal Government to step in and save an Innaloo post office that is due to close today. The branch, inside Westfield Innaloo, has served the community since 1967. Councillors backed a motion to keep pressing for the service to be protected, and Mayor Mark Irwin has written to the ministers who oversee Australia Post. Residents have raised concerns about older people, people with disabilities and those who rely on public transport. Australia Post says falling visits and financial losses mean the outlet is no longer viable.

New South Wales Governor Margaret Beazley attended an afternoon tea hosted by the Molong Country Women's Association. She visited members on Sunday 18 October, before the branch's official 100th birthday event in November. Branch president Helen Williams said members were thrilled and very surprised by the visit. The Governor was invited both in her role as state governor and as CWA patron. The afternoon featured scones with jam, slices, sandwiches, tea and coffee, giving members an informal chance to speak with her.

Betrayed from within: Thieving managers cost business $500k, forced it to slash jobs

Three people who defrauded a Canberra business of about $500,000 have been sentenced in the ACT Supreme Court. Ricky John Byrne, Steven Quilter and Lisa Quilter were convicted over years of fraud against POPES Electrical & Data Supplies. The court heard the business closed two stores and cut its workforce in half. Gambling and drug addiction were among the motives, the court heard. All three were given intensive corrections orders, and reparations were ordered to be paid to the business.

Fagan Park Receives $5,000 for Historic Displays

A community bank has given $5,000 to volunteers at Fagan Park to buy and install showcases for the historical artefacts held in the homestead room. The showcases will protect fragile objects while letting visitors see them clearly. Bank staff say they back local projects that protect the area's history and improve shared spaces. The branch said it is proud to work with The Friends of Fagan Park. It added that it can reinvest profits in the town because customers keep banking with it.

Almost 60-year-old Innaloo post office closure fight heats up as petition begins

The Innaloo Post Shop inside Westfield Innaloo is scheduled to close on 23 October, with Australia Post citing declining visits and financial losses. Resident Jerry Driver argues the branch is busy and its closure will impact vulnerable residents, including elderly and those with mobility issues. City of Stirling councillor Elizabeth Re is seeking council support to lobby against the closure, citing its importance for seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income residents.
