Memories made with grand final victory

The Tamborine Mountain Eagles Under 18s beat Broadbeach United 2-0 in the grand final on September 11. Coach Mark Benson said the win followed several years of development for a group he has coached since the Under 13s. The Eagles had lost earlier decider matches, including an Under 16 grand final. Broadbeach had won the premiership, but the Eagles beat them in a penalty shootout in the semi-final and again in the decider. Benson said the team's win gave the players a memory that would last their lifetimes.

Plant theft on Gallery Walk

Shop owners on Gallery Walk were left shocked after a plant was stolen from outside their business on September 23. Kenneth Veitch, who owns A Wee Bit o' Scotland with his wife Laura, saw a woman take the plant and walk away up the road. Laura said the shop has often had cuttings taken from its plants, but removing a whole plant was different. Volunteers from the Tamborine Mountain Garden Club had recently revitalised the gardens ahead of Springtime on the Mountain. Kenneth said the theft has made him reconsider replacing the plant.

Remembering Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Birch

Tamborine Mountain resident Betty Birch has died at the age of 83 after several years of illness. She is remembered for her devotion to family, her love of cooking and her collection of teddy bears. Born in Victoria in 1942, Betty later moved to Queensland with her husband Richard. The couple ran a bed and breakfast on Tamborine Mountain, where Betty took over the local shop Teddies on Tamborine. The shop drew collectors from across the country and overseas until changing retail habits and online shopping led to its closure.

The production reworks scenes from Macbeth, Othello, Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, mixing original Shakespearean text with contemporary dialogue, physical theatre and Australian pop-culture references. It explores why the women in Shakespeare's tragedies so often end in madness, violence or death. Audiences do not need prior knowledge of Shakespeare to enjoy the show.
