Man United captain branded 'disgrace' for comments following latest loss

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been labelled a disgrace by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher after questioning manager Michael Carrick's tactics. Fernandes said his side lacked pressure and adopted a mood of defeat after conceding early in a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como. Asked whether his comments criticised Carrick, Fernandes said that was for the manager and staff to judge. Carrick apologised for the performance, saying the team had not brought the required intensity. United have won no matches in seven games, and host AS Roma next in the competition.

What did Bruno Fernandes say about Man United tactics? Red Devils captain questions Michael Carrick after Como loss

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes appeared to question head coach Michael Carrick's tactics after a 4-1 defeat to Como. Asked what went wrong, Fernandes said the decision not to press man to man had allowed opponents too much of the ball. When asked directly whether Carrick had got his tactics wrong, he said that was for the manager and staff to judge. Carrick later defended his approach, saying the side had tried to press at one point and conceded a goal from it. The club sits 13th in the Premier League after a poor start to the season.

'It felt a bit easy': Proteas rue letting Aussies off the hook

South Africa allrounder Wiaan Mulder has questioned his team's tactics after Matt Renshaw scored 190 runs in Durban. Renshaw's partnership with Nathan Lyon helped Australia recover from 8-230 to 390, taking control of the Test. Mulder suggested South Africa could have made it harder for Renshaw to retain the strike. The Proteas' fast bowlers were also heavily worked, with Anrich Nortje bowling 28 overs in his first first-class game since March 2023.
