Paid parking will start at Rosebud Hospital and The Mornington Centre from 27 October. Bayside Health says the fees will cover rising operational and maintenance costs. Staff will pay $4.50 per eight-hour shift, matching other Peninsula Care Group sites. Nepean MP Anthony Marsh opposes the changes, calling them tone-deaf during a cost-of-living crisis. Parking will remain free for visits under 30 minutes.
Staff of independent MP Helen Haines say they are devastated and that being close to the incident has been deeply traumatic for the team. Haines remains in a critical condition at Melbourne's Alfred Hospital, and her husband Phil says she is alive and stable. Brendan Nugent has been charged over the incident, which police allege happened outside her electorate office in Wangaratta on Monday afternoon. Nugent did not apply for bail and remains in custody. His next court appearance is set for 4 February 2027.
Joan McCall worked for 48 years in the kitchen of Star of the Sea, a Catholic aged care home in Wallaroo. She started as a kitchen hand after leaving school and later cooked all meals for residents as the home grew from 20 to 70 beds. She retired a few months ago to care for her husband, who has dementia. Colleague Gaylia Johns said the home now uses a trishaw to take residents around town and keeps a memory tree honouring past residents.

A parking shortage at the new Griffith Base Hospital is causing difficulties for staff, patients and disabled residents. The Murrumbidgee Local Health District says more spaces will be added, but the old car park area is set to be repurposed. The hospital will have more than 350 car parking spaces once the redevelopment is complete, with additional parking closer to the main entry and improved drop-off access to the emergency department. A fenced-off area on Animoo Avenue that was previously used as a carpark has been earmarked for key health-worker accommodation.
