Tamworth sports precinct road upgrades near finish

Tamworth's Sports and Entertainment Precinct is set to receive new crossings, street lighting and a shared path by mid-December. The $1.42 million road safety project is nearing completion. Upgrades include wombat and pedestrian crossings, safety fencing and a 3-metre shared path along Longyard Drive. Council staff transplanted 22 Australian native grass trees to spots that do not block sight lines at the Jack Smyth Drive roundabout. The project is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments under the Australian Government's Road Safety Program, which aims to reduce severe road injuries and deaths.

Scenic path connects Newport and Bilgola

A new shared path now connects Newport Beach and Bilgola Beach, giving walkers and cyclists a route away from Barrenjoey Road. The path also forms part of the Northern Beaches Coastal Walk and includes lookout points and native landscaping. Mayor Sue Heins said the route is safer and more accessible for walkers, cyclists and people with mobility limitations. The path is built from low-maintenance, corrosion-resistant materials, including stainless-steel handrails with timber accents. It extends the completed Coast Walk and bicycle network between Manly and Newport.

Delacombe road rebuild set to begin

The City of Ballarat will start a $1.04 million reconstruction of a 425-metre section of Whitelaw Avenue in Delacombe on Monday 26 October. The road will be fully closed between Pentlands Court and Beaumont Drive, with traffic diverted to Greenhalghs Road or La Trobe Street. The service road will stay open for buses and local residents. The council, which is funding the project, expects the work to finish before Christmas, weather permitting. Mayor Tracey Hargreaves said the project would help the growing suburbs keep a safe and reliable road network.

Newport to Bilgola Shared Path Opens

A new 750-metre shared path connecting Newport Beach to The Serpentine at Bilgola Beach has officially opened. The path runs beside Barrenjoey Road, keeping walkers and cyclists away from heavy vehicles. It completes the latest section of the Northern Beaches Coast Walk. A 200-metre concrete section of the Bicentennial Path at Newport's northern end also connects to Eric Green Reserve. Northern Beaches Council delivered the project with funding from the NSW Government. Mayor Sue Heins and Transport Minister John Graham said the link is a key milestone for active transport in the region.

Damms Road Link to create safer connection for walkers and cyclists

Alpine Shire Council will deliver the next stage of the Kiewa River Loop Trail in Mount Beauty. The Damms Road Link will create about 1.3 kilometres of sealed asphalt shared path along Nelse Street, Valley Avenue and Damms Road, separating pedestrians and cyclists from vehicles. The path will connect to the town's existing shared path network and extend towards the Kiewa River East Branch. The $797,000 project is fully funded by the Victorian Government. North East Civil Construction has been appointed to build it, with works expected to start in November.
