Shakespeare gets a makeover in O Woe Is Me

A new comedy called O Woe Is Me will be staged at the Zamia Theatre on Tamborine Mountain from October 16 to 31, 2026. The production reworks scenes from Macbeth, Othello, Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, mixing original Shakespearean text with contemporary dialogue, physical theatre and Australian pop-culture references. It explores why the women in Shakespeare's tragedies so often end in madness, violence or death. Audiences do not need prior knowledge of Shakespeare to enjoy the show.

Dame Judi Dench reveals she 'can't act anymore' as eye condition worsens

Dame Judi Dench says her eyesight has deteriorated so far that she can no longer act on stage or in films. The 91-year-old British actress has had macular degeneration, a chronic eye disease, for more than a decade. She said she can no longer recognise faces and has often nearly hugged strangers, mistaking them for people she knows. Dench, whose seven-decade career included an Oscar and a Tony, said performing had always been frightening but was part of the energy she drew on.
