'Degrading': deepfake porn offender spared time in jail
An Adelaide man has been spared jail time for creating degrading deepfake images of a teenager he was obsessed with. William Hamish Yeates, 20, was the first person prosecuted under federal laws introduced in 2024 against adult deepfake pornography. In the South Australian District Court, Judge Anne Barnett sentenced him to two years and three months in prison, suspended on a three-year, $500 good behaviour bond. The judge said the material was disseminated online and could reach a large audience indefinitely. She ordered Yeates to pay the victim's medical expenses and forfeit seized devices.
