Former South African batter Daryll Cullinan had warned the October schedule could bring wet, low-scoring matches. Under new ICC conditions, teams can agree to use a pink ball throughout a match to reduce bad light stoppages.

Meanwhile, Australia is exploring a potential five-test series against South Africa, despite scheduling challenges.
