Roosters stunningly withdraw contract offer to halfback Sam Walker

The Sydney Roosters have withdrawn their contract extension offer to halfback Sam Walker after the two sides could not agree on terms. Walker is contracted to the club for 2027. The 24-year-old, who won an NRL premiership with the Roosters this year, had said he wanted to stay. He also made his State of Origin debut for Queensland and his Australian debut in a win over Fiji. If talks do not resume, Walker will be one of the most sought-after halfbacks in the game from November 1.

Contract chaos as Roosters withdraw Walker offer, immediate release rumoured

The Sydney Roosters have withdrawn their contract extension offer to halfback Sam Walker after the two parties failed to agree on terms. The club said the offer, which extended beyond the 2027 season, is no longer on the table. Walker is free to speak with rival NRL clubs from Sunday, although he still has 12 months left on his current deal. Reports suggest the Roosters may be willing to release him immediately. The move came hours after the Canberra Raiders withdrew their offer to Hudson Young.

Roosters duo set to be overlooked for World Cup opener against Kiwis

Sydney Roosters players James Tedesco and Sam Walker are widely expected to be left out of Australia's starting lineup for the Rugby League World Cup opener against New Zealand. Coach Kevin Walters is likely to name them on the bench, with Reece Walsh and Mitchell Moses preferred. Australian captain Isaah Yeo said the Roosters players were getting an extra week of rest after a busy NRL finals campaign, and that everyone would get an opportunity. The teams meet on Thursday night at Allianz Stadium, with kick-off at 8:05pm.
