The Queensland Police Service opens its statement by acknowledging First Nations peoples, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as Traditional Owners of lands across Australia and their connection to country and community. It pays respect to Traditional Owners and their Elders, past, present and emerging, and to the ancestors of this land and their legacy. The statement says these ancestors laid foundations that give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. The acknowledgement is presented as a formal opening and does not describe the fire itself.
First-home buyers have been locked out of 169 previously affordable Queensland property markets since the federal 5 per cent deposit scheme was expanded a year ago. An analysis of Realestate.com.au data found that 852 of 890 house and unit markets have risen in value. Deagon houses jumped 31.2 per cent to $1.187 million. Since October, new Queensland mortgage lodgements have fallen 30 per cent, with first-home buyer applications down 18 per cent, according to Loan Market. Buyer's agent Lauren Jones said rising interest rates and living costs have cut borrowing power, leaving young buyers largely absent from the market.
A Springwood club has raised more than $96,800 to support women facing breast cancer. About 200 people attended the seventh annual Go Pink luncheon at LIONS@Springwood in Rochedale South. The money will fund the early breast cancer care coordinator role at Mater Cancer Care Centre in South Brisbane. Care coordinator Esther White said the role gives patients consistent support through an unfamiliar experience. Mater Foundation chief executive Andrew Thomas encouraged residents to host their own Breasties Brunch during October.

A 60-year-old Rochedale South man has died in hospital more than two weeks after a crash at a local intersection. Police said a white Ford Falcon ute and a silver Honda Jazz collided at the intersection of Rochedale and Priestdale roads at about 11.10pm on September 26. The man was a passenger in the Honda, whose driver, a 67-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital. The Ford's 22-year-old driver was also taken to hospital. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and asks witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact police.
