Western Sydney musicians, producers and composers can now apply for a second round of free access to professional recording and rehearsal spaces in Parramatta. The residencies last one or two months and form part of a 12-month council trial to make community facilities more affordable. Lord Mayor Cameron MacLean said the program aims to give local artists professional facilities at no cost. Applicants must be aged 18 or over, connected to western Sydney, and Australian citizens or permanent residents. Expressions of interest close at 5pm on November 2, 2026, with residencies running from January to June 2027.
Sydney filmmaker Renee Kypriotis has been selected for the PlayLab Films Creators Lab, a ten-day residency in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, led by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi. Fifty filmmakers take part, each developing and shooting a short film from a shared theme. Kypriotis says the lab costs €7,900 before travel, and she is seeking support to cover it. She previously made the short films Concrete and RAGE, and moved to Athens earlier this year to reconnect with her Greek heritage.
Wollongong City Council is inviting young artists aged 18 to 24 to apply for a 12-month residency program. The successful applicant will receive a studio space, $1000 for art supplies, and opportunities to exhibit their work. They will also mentor other budding artists. Current resident Amelie Masset said the program has helped her develop her creative practice and gain experience through sharing her passions. Wollongong Lord Mayor Tania Brown praised the program for its benefits to both the successful applicant and the wider art community.
