Politicians condemn planned Remembrance Day protests against One Nation and Pauline Hanson

One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce has described planned student protests on Remembrance Day as disgraceful. Organisers from the High School Anti-Capitalists say the date is coincidental and the demonstrations will be peaceful. Joyce said the protests should not go ahead on November 11, a day for remembering Australians who died in war. Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek urged the protests be moved to a Saturday. Veteran Heston Russell also urged students to show maturity and respect for the day.

Special Forces veteran slams Remembrance Day protests as students told to ‘show some maturity’

Special Forces veteran Heston Russell has urged Australian students to show maturity and respect on Remembrance Day, rejecting plans for political protests on November 11. An anti-capitalist student group has organised a demonstration linked to unrest in France, which began in Paris over teacher shortages and school conditions. Russell said the day should transcend politics and honours those who died in wars. He warned the protests could boost attention for One Nation leader Pauline Hanson and urged people not to give the demonstrators the attention they seek.
