Butler warns visa cuts would hit the west

Independent Barwon MP Roy Butler has warned that extreme federal cuts to migration intake would hit businesses and services across western New South Wales. On Wednesday, 21 October, he delivered a Notice of Motion to NSW Parliament, titled Visa Workers Needed. Butler said many bush communities lack enough local staff for pubs, clubs and retail shifts. He also said country towns rely on overseas workers in aged care and hospitals. Butler said he would work with new conservative MPs if voters return him at the next election.

The award recognises leadership, governance, innovation and service delivery. It is the first time the organisation has won it since forming from the 2019 merger of Kyneton District Health Service and Hepburn Health Service. The organisation serves the Hepburn and Macedon Ranges shires from campuses in Clunes, Creswick, Daylesford, Kyneton and Trentham.

Family forced to drive three hours for 'vital' testing after daughter's rape

A Port Lincoln mother says she drove three hours with her daughter for vital forensic testing after the teenager was raped, and she is calling for better regional access to such services. The daughter was sexually assaulted earlier this year and police were contacted. After statements and a hospital consultation, the family was directed to the nearest qualified nurse, who was in Whyalla, about 270 kilometres away. The nurse attended on her day off, and testing took three and a half hours before the family returned home at 2am.
