Walking Japan’s Kumano Kodo: The Old Road Through the Cedars
Japan's Kumano Kodo is a network of pilgrimage routes through the Kii Peninsula, linking mountain shrines by forest paths and village roads. The popular Nakahechi route can be walked over consecutive days or in shorter sections. Walkers are advised to book accommodation well ahead, as rooms are limited and meals often begin around six in the evening. Luggage transfer services let walkers carry only a day pack. The route ends at Nachi, where a waterfall has long been worshipped.
