$200k price tag puts calls for safer Landsdale crossing in doubt as City of Wanneroo considers petition

City of Wanneroo officers are recommending against a pedestrian crossing outside a Landsdale early learning centre, despite a petition signed by 89 people. The centre says children regularly cross Kingsway to reach Brockwell Park and that the road is hard to cross. Officers estimate a crossing could cost up to $200,000 and say a video survey recorded only four people crossing. They instead propose a $30,000 footpath on the south side of Kingsway. The council is expected to vote on the recommendation on October 27.

Traffic chaos avoided – Council listens to Murray Street traders

Bass Coast Mayor Brett Tessari has put forward a notice of motion calling for a pause on the proposed lights and stripes pedestrian crossing in Murray Street, Wonthaggi. The motion follows concerns from local business owners about lost parking, deliveries and traffic congestion. Tessari is seeking a further report on costs, funding, safety, consultation and alternative designs, to be presented to the November 18 council meeting. The motion needs majority support from councillors to proceed.

Safer Streets for Truganina Schools

Planning has started for road safety upgrades around schools in Truganina. The state government says work will be carried out on Leakes Road and Clearwood Drive, a busy intersection used by Truganina P-9 College, childcare centres and sports teams. Upgrades include a safer pedestrian crossing at Clearwood Drive, lower speed limits on Leakes Road during school hours and electronic speed signs. Laverton MP Sarah Connolly said the intersection needed fixing and that she had advocated for the work. Planning is expected to be finished by early 2027, with site assessments to include temporary lane, footpath and speed limit changes.
