More than 200 people attended a Greek tavern night at Oakleigh's Apollo Room, marking 20 years of Monash University's Hellenic Students' Society. Organisers had expected 160 to 180 guests. Co-President Andrew Nicolettou called it the society's largest tavern night yet. The evening featured Greek food, music, traditional dancing and a raffle. The society has also introduced subsidised Greek language classes for members. Its annual general meeting in late October will elect a new committee for 2027.

South Melbourne, Sydney Olympic and Oakleigh Cannons all feature in the second Australian Championship, each with a different goal. South Melbourne, last year's winners, face the pressure of being the main target after their Australia Cup triumph. Sydney Olympic is seeking redemption after narrowly missing the knockout stage last season, and has signed several marquee players, including Dimitri Petratos. Oakleigh Cannons are new to the tournament after winning the NPL Victoria Premiership, and their coach says the competition offers a valuable platform for younger players.
Monash Council will increase visits to its designated smoke-free areas throughout the summer. Officers will offer support, guidance and education to businesses and the wider community. The areas are Eaton Mall in Oakleigh and Kingsway in Glen Waverley, under the council's Smoke-free Area Local Law 2021. Smoking and vaping are banned in these areas, and the council says the rules protect children, older adults and people with existing health conditions from second-hand smoke and vapour. The council will first ask people to stop or move outside the area. Continued non-compliance may lead to enforcement action, including infringements.
