A riverfront penthouse once owned by Queensland businesswoman Betty Byrne Henderson has sold at auction for $5.825 million after a contest between two local bidders. The three-bedroom home sits in the Arcadia building on Newstead Terrace and overlooks the Brisbane River. Selling agent Sarah Hackett said the buyer plans to modernise the property. The sale came days after Domain data showed Brisbane house prices fell $66,000 in three months, the steepest quarterly drop on record.
Brisbane Pride has postponed its Rally, March and Fair Day because of adverse weather conditions this week. The event will now be held on Saturday 7 November. The organisation said the safety and wellbeing of the community, performers, stallholders, volunteers and staff came first. Melt Festival's River Pride Parade will go ahead, as will the Melt Opening Night Party at Brisbane Powerhouse. The launch of the Preserving Pride: Brisbane Pride History Project has also moved to 7 November.
The Augathella Spiegeltent has relocated from Wynnum to New Farm, where it opened this month as Brisbane Powerhouse's newest venue. It arrived in time to host Brisbane Writers Festival and Melt Festival. Brisbane Powerhouse chief executive Louise Bezzina said the tent was commissioned in 2009 for the Queensland 150th birthday celebrations. After a period in storage, Tom Oliver's family found the tent and helped him restore it. From 2027, it will become the home of Tom Oliver Productions' Queensland Fringe.

Thousands of people are expected in New Farm later this month for the Brisbane Pride Rally and March, which Brisbane Pride organisers say could be the biggest single-day celebration of queer life the city has seen. The march runs along Brunswick Street on Saturday, October 24, and ends at New Farm Park, where Fair Day features a main stage, markets and food vans. Joanne is headlining, with RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under stars Vybe and Coco Jumbo also performing. The festival runs through October 31.
Guest columnist David Topp argues Rockhampton's 2032 Olympic rowing venue faces airport capacity problems, as the terminal there is purely domestic. He says Victoria Park's stadium site has lost its scenic signage status and that road signs should be changed. He also says the New Farm parkrun course is crowded and narrow in places. Topp notes that Brisbane Lions beat Fremantle Dockers in the 2026 AFL Grand Final, their sixth premiership since 1990.
More than 10.5 billion litres of untreated sewage was released into Brisbane waterways in 12 months, with 7,291 releases having no recorded volume. Kalinga, Clayfield and Wooloowin accounted for 153 releases, with only one having a recorded volume. Adam Bowden, founder of Stop Raw Sewage Into SEQ Waterways, said the figures raised crucial questions about the scale of sewage entering the environment. Urban Utilities plans to invest $6.7 billion in water and wastewater infrastructure over the next decade.
