The Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway Ramp has been officially named Patyegarang, after a Cammeraygal woman who helped bridge colonial and Indigenous communities. The name was chosen through a collaborative process with local Aboriginal community members. Transport for NSW has also unveiled new bronze signage and a cyclist counter board, which shows live usage statistics. The ramp's opening in January has led to a 30% increase in cycleway usage, averaging 1,600 daily riders over the past six months.
Many towns in the region took their names from Scottish figures, literature and places. Ivanhoe is believed to be named after Sir Walter Scott's novel, chosen by storekeeper George Brown Williamson. Booligal's name comes from an Aboriginal word, possibly meaning windy place. Hillston was renamed after publican William Ward Hill, who died in 1867. Maude's naming remains unresolved, with officials rejecting an earlier proposed name without recorded reasons.
Councillor Doug Eaton has submitted a notice of motion to the next council meeting on Tuesday, October 27. The motion calls for a report on changing the region's name to Central Coast City.

The Luddenham Progress Association opposes a plan to create a new suburb named Wianamatta over the Western Sydney International Airport precinct, arguing it would absorb parts of Luddenham, Badgerys Creek, Bringelly and Greendale. The association claims the proposal lacks consultation, creates confusion, and disrupts long-standing communities. The Geographical Names Board argues the new suburb would improve service delivery and public wayfinding.
