A team of young girls from the Mid North Coast will be the first local female team to play in the First Nations Football Festival in Dubbo on October 9-10. The Mitjigan's, a name meaning 'Little Girls' in Gathang, are coached by Birpai woman Kayla Clark. Several players compete in Football North Coast representative squads and local clubs. The team is fundraising to help families meet the cost of travel. The girls received uniforms designed by the players, with a smoking ceremony and traditional ochre paint-up held to mark the occasion.
