Stevie Wonder sues ex-fiancee living rent-free in LA home

Stevie Wonder has asked a court to evict his former fiancee, Carmen Efferson, from his Los Angeles home. Court filings allege she has lived there rent-free for nearly four decades under an informal verbal agreement dating from July 1988. The dispute followed Efferson's refusal to allow an insurance inspector onto the property, after which Wonder's lawyers served a 30-day notice to leave. Wonder is asking a judge to end the verbal agreement, order the eviction and award damages and legal costs.

Thomas More Society in case to protect Catholic counsellor from LGBTQ tyranny

The Thomas More Society has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of two Christian counsellors in Lincoln, Nebraska. The group says a city ordinance bans counselling that aims to change a person's gender identity, and that it puts counsellors at risk of jail and losing their licence. Lawyers for the group point to a March ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court against a similar Colorado law. The group says Lincoln refused to repeal its ordinance.

3M lays out 'attack' on Commonwealth's $2 billion PFAS lawsuit

US chemical company 3M has outlined how it will fight the federal government's $2 billion lawsuit over PFAS contamination at 28 Defence Force bases. The Commonwealth alleges 3M hid evidence that its firefighting foam was toxic, a claim the company disputes. At a Federal Court case management hearing, 3M's barrister Phillip Solomon KC said the defence would challenge the case, including the public nuisance claim. The Commonwealth has proposed six representative bases for the case, but 3M wants to focus on one. Another hearing has been set for December 1.

‘Taken from me’: US mum-of-six loses hands, legs, lips and left paralysed after hysterectomy goes badly wrong

A mother of six in the United States is seeking $98 million in damages over a hysterectomy she says went badly wrong. Trisha Stevens, 46, names three doctors and two Portland hospitals in her lawsuit, alleging they delayed treatment for sepsis. Stevens says she was advised to rest and hydrate after reporting bleeding and fever, before her condition deteriorated. She has since had both legs and her right hand amputated, and she is paralysed from the waist down. Her attorney, Rhett Fraser, says she now needs daily wound care and cannot eat independently.

Georgia man sues Flock, sheriff's office over alleged ALPR-fueled retaliation

A Georgia man has filed a lawsuit against Flock and the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. He alleges that license plate reader data was used to retaliate against him. His attorneys say the searches violated Georgia law and the Fourth Amendment. The sheriff's office began an audit of the system in August 2026, and three employees resigned before it was completed. Flock said it would require case codes for all law enforcement searches by the end of the year. The company said it disagrees with the claims and will defend its position in court.

Judge orders OpenAI to turn over hiring records in Apple trade secrets case

A US judge has ordered OpenAI to hand over hiring materials to Apple within set deadlines. Apple sued OpenAI in July, alleging it stole trade secrets. The materials include interview records for former Apple employees who applied for roles in consumer hardware and robotics. Judge Edward Davila approved access to these interview materials and some private messages, as well as depositions from three people. He denied Apple's broader requests, but left room for Apple to narrow them and try again.

Driver wins $76 after ALPR led to bogus traffic stop, drug searches

A driver has won $76 in a lawsuit after a traffic stop and drug search based on an automated license plate reader (ALPR) alert. Dashcam and bodycam footage showed no suspicious behaviour, and the search found nothing. The driver's lawyers argued the case was about constitutional rights, not money. Critics say the case highlights concerns about ALPR technology and its potential for misuse. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment.
