Mosman councillor Michael Randall is organising a Convoy to Canberra to urge locals to join the fight to save HMAS Penguin and its Angophora forest. Randall is running the convoy as a resident, not on behalf of Council, where he has served since 2021.
The Uniting Church in Barwon Heads has created a vacant 1395 square metre battleaxe block at 71 Hitchcock Ave, directly behind its heritage-listed church. The church could receive between $3m and $3.3m from the sale. The proceeds will go back to the local congregation, which is restoring the church and building a new community and event space. The block has mixed use zoning, and listing agent Elissa Holloway says it could suit a private residence, a boutique development or a commercial concept. Expressions of interest close on December 10.
The Gibbins family plans to sell the block of land on the Bruxner Highway at Mummulgum that holds the local rural fire shed. The shed sits on a handshake agreement made about forty years ago, with no lease or written paperwork. Kyogle Council owns the shed and its contents, while the family owns the land and pays rates. Jamie Gibbins has asked the council to consider buying the land, and the council says it will seek a valuation and consider all options.

Wagga Wagga City Council has resolved to authorise its general manager to sign a contract selling land at 232 Ashfords Road, Gregadoo, to CDC Data Centres. The sale is conditional on CDC providing community benefits worth at least $150 million, with a further $75 million separately proposed. The council bought the land in November 2024 for future waste management needs. The proposed data centre would cover about 63 hectares and include 384 backup diesel generators. Residents have launched petitions over fire risks and rural impacts.
Fairbairn Golf Club in Canberra is campaigning to stay open after the Commonwealth listed its 65-hectare Defence-owned course among 68 properties for sale. The club recently signed a five-year lease, and club president Brian Depree says the Finance Department has had little contact with it. Depree has met most ACT MPs and senators, who he says were sympathetic, though Finance Minister Katy Gallagher faces a conflict because she will make the final decision. He has given Finance six options to keep the course in community use, including a purchase backed by Golf NSW.
Independent Member for Elwick Bec Thomas says a report on the proposed sale of land at Wilkinsons Point highlights the need for transparency and parliamentary scrutiny.
