$200k price tag puts calls for safer Landsdale crossing in doubt as City of Wanneroo considers petition

City of Wanneroo officers are recommending against a pedestrian crossing outside a Landsdale early learning centre, despite a petition signed by 89 people. The centre says children regularly cross Kingsway to reach Brockwell Park and that the road is hard to cross. Officers estimate a crossing could cost up to $200,000 and say a video survey recorded only four people crossing. They instead propose a $30,000 footpath on the south side of Kingsway. The council is expected to vote on the recommendation on October 27.

City gets ball rolling on World Cup upgrades

Work has started on a redevelopment of the rugby facilities at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex in Madeley, with a sod-turning ceremony marking the first stage. The venue has been chosen as an official international training base for the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027, which will be held across Australia from 1 October to 13 November next year. Teams will use the facility during the tournament's initial three pool phases. The first stage will add four new changerooms to support female rugby participation and high-performance training, with completion scheduled for June 2027.
