City forced to postpone ‘one of their most anticipated’ events after deadly dog virus detected in Perth

The City of Stirling has postponed its Paw-some Day Out after canine parvovirus was detected in the community. The event was due to be held this Sunday at Grindleford Reserve in Balcatta, and the city called it one of its most anticipated community events. The city says the virus is highly contagious and potentially deadly, so postponing was the only responsible option. A new date has not yet been confirmed. Karrinyup Small Animal Hospital has introduced precautions, with vets assessing and testing dogs outside the clinic while wearing full protective equipment.

Vets are assessing dogs and testing them outside the hospital while wearing full personal protective equipment. Owners of dogs with lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhoea are asked to call the clinic before arriving. Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are particularly vulnerable to the virus.

More Cue Clothing and Veronika Maine stores to close as buyers line up with rescue bids

Receivers for the collapsed Cue Clothing and Veronika Maine retail brands will close 26 more stores as they prepare a possible sale. A small shortlist of potential buyers has made non-binding offers, but the closures will go ahead regardless. Stores in New South Wales will be hit hardest, while Perth loses a Cue store in Cannington and a Veronika Maine shop in Claremont Quarter. Receivers said closures start immediately, with timing varying by store. Staff will be moved into remaining stores where possible.

AI traffic cameras keeping an eye on drivers in western suburbs

An AI safety camera trailer was installed on Curtin Avenue in Cottesloe to detect mobile phone use, seatbelt non-compliance and speeding. It operated on southbound traffic between Eric Street and Napier Street from September 30 to October 6. Touching a mobile phone carries a minimum $500 fine and three demerit points, while incorrect seatbelt use starts at $550 and four demerits. The Road Safety Commission says detected seatbelt and mobile phone offences fell by 76 per cent over the 12 months to August 2026. Fines go into the Road Trauma Trust, which funds road safety projects.
