Darklight Designs has won several honours at the Design Matters National Building Design Awards for Old Ladies Club, a family home in Watermans Bay, Western Australia. The brief called for a fun, practical home for a couple raising three energetic boys, with gardens visible from every main room. The architect responded with a split-level pavilion design, a rumpus room opening onto a lawn, and parking tucked underneath, while keeping a mature street gum. The judges praised its clean planning and restrained materials.
A two-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 12 Yanda Street in Waramanga has received a commendation at the ACT Architecture Awards. Designed by de Rome Architects, the property has two self-contained wings joined by an open living and dining area. Agent Bianca Emery says the home is energy efficient, with insulated concrete slab, double-glazed windows and a 5000-litre rainwater tank. Features for ageing residents include anchor points in the bathrooms and a double garage. The home sits a few streets from local shops and is minutes from the Woden centre.
A four-bedroom home at 17 Andrews Avenue in Kooringal, Wagga Wagga, is on the market for the first time since it was built 30 years ago. Designed in the style of a turn-of-the-century Victorian home, it features 12-foot ornamental ceilings and a sunroom with morning views. The downstairs area holds a restored 1880s saloon-style bar with a working tap. Agent Ryan Smith says the home is move-in ready and sits within minutes of the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens and the city centre.
