Council has secured a Victorian Government grant to revitalise the Bayswater Retail Precinct through shopfront upgrades for local businesses. The project is due for completion by early 2027 and aims to boost street appeal and foot traffic. Participating traders include Lee Lee's Bakehouse, Fragrant Harbour Cafe and My Little Saigon, each planning improvements to their frontages. Owners say the works will make their businesses easier to notice and more inviting to customers.
Documents show Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was invited to a media event celebrating a $6 million upgrade to Marrickville Golf Club, five days before the ABC reported he held an undisclosed honorary membership. The event did not go ahead. Albanese told parliament the grant would fix a sewerage problem, but a department brief did not mention sewerage and instead described clubhouse, bar and revenue upgrades. Opposition Infrastructure spokesperson Bridget McKenzie accused him of misleading parliament.
The Sunnyside Reserve Pump Track at Cape Woolamai has received a $400,000 state government grant. Bass Coast Shire Council is contributing $143,870 to the project. The future of the Goldfields Repertory Club remains uncertain as volunteers work to raise $6.5 million to rebuild its run-down Brookman Street theatre. The 95-year-old club received $50,000 of the $97,000 it asked for from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Vice-president Norma Latchford said the club will now approach local companies for support. Significant deterioration has ruled out renovation, so a full rebuild is the only option. A $50,000 grant will fund a $195,000 project to prepare construction plans, which would allow the club to seek larger grants.
South Burnett CTC has officially opened a $3.96 million redevelopment in Somerset Street, Kingaroy. The project was funded partly by a $1.98 million Federal Government grant, which CTC matched dollar-for-dollar. Staff moved into the new offices on September 7, 2026. The expansion includes four single-storey buildings, connected walkways, landscaping and a sealed 34-space car park. CTC chief executive Jason Erbacher said the company now employs nearly 300 people and that further stages could follow on the site.
