Morning Mail: surge in bulk-billing by GPs; Deloitte under pressure over error-filled WA report; and anger over Neighbours’ AI recut

New data shows almost two-thirds of Australians are now bulk-billed for all their GP care, after government financial incentives for doctors and practices. The WA government is seeking its money back from consultancy Deloitte after a report was found to contain errors, including AI-generated references and cost discrepancies. The Quilpie council is giving away 62 residential lots and a $20,000 grant to encourage home building. Former Neighbours star Donna Freedman's character features in an AI-recut microdrama designed for phones, which has sparked debate.

Almost two-thirds of Australians bulk-billed for all GP care amid extra incentives for doctors

The share of Australians bulk-billed for all their GP care has risen to 63%, up from 56% a year earlier, according to a report by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. The increase follows government financial incentives for doctors and practices that bulk-bill all eligible Medicare services. The proportion remains below the 70% recorded in 2019. Dr Michael Wright said the results show patients benefit when governments invest in general practice. Health economist Luke Slawomirski urged caution, noting the survey covers about 7% of the GP workforce and that access and patient outcomes also matter.

ADHD care model up for state award

A program moving ADHD care for children closer to home across northern NSW has been named a finalist in the 2026 NSW Health Awards. The ADHD Co-management Program is a finalist in the Transforming Patient Experience Award category. Since February 2025, more than 650 children with stable ADHD have moved to GP-led care, with ongoing specialist oversight. The shift has freed up to 750 paediatric outpatient appointments each year. The finalists will be celebrated at a ceremony in Sydney on Thursday, 29 October.
