'Gas or starvation': infrastructure boss backs projects

APA Group chief executive Adam Watson has defended the company's future gas projects, saying people would starve without natural gas used in food production. At the company's Sydney annual meeting, activist shareholders questioned the viability of new gas projects. A resolution backed by more than 115 shareholders demanded transparency on these projects as climate goals affect demand. Market Forces criticised the planned North to East Australia Pipeline, which would carry gas from the Beetaloo Basin. The Australian Institute backed a 25 per cent tax on gas exports, which Mr Watson rejected.

Soft-spoken David Pocock has big ambitions – but first he wants politicians to ‘double down’ on kindness

ACT senator David Pocock has ruled out a bid for prime minister, though he is thinking about life after politics. Speaking at the National Press Club, he called for a higher standard in parliament after the alleged attack on independent MP Helen Haines. He proposed a 25% tax on gas exports, a 5% levy on datacentres and lobbying transparency reforms. Pocock also floated a new alliance of independents and community collectives ahead of the next election.
