Police detain 'cockroach' movement founder ahead of protests in Delhi

Indian police have detained Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the youth-led cockroach movement, along with student leaders and supporters, as hundreds gathered in central Delhi. Protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over a voter roll revision that more than 130 million names were removed from. The Election Commission denies favouring any party and says wrongly deleted voters can re-enrol. Police and paramilitary forces outnumbered demonstrators at Connaught Place. Two Cockroach Janta Party leaders were jailed this week for protesting at Jantar Mantar in breach of a ban.
