Adelaide's Deepavali Festival will return to the Adelaide Showground at Wayville on Saturday 7 November. The event, organised by the Hindu Council of Australia's South Australian chapter, runs from 12.30pm to 10.30pm. The program includes cultural performances, a Ram Leela presentation, a Lakshmi Ganesh Maha Aarti and the burning of a 35-foot Ravan effigy with fireworks. Entry costs $20 per person, while children under 12 and seniors attend for free. The festival is supported by the South Australian Government and is open to people of all backgrounds.
NSW Premier Chris Minns joined members of the Hindu community and other dignitaries for a Deepavali celebration in Sydney. The event was held at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir and Cultural Precinct and hosted by the Hindu Council of Australia. Politicians Donna Davis and Daniel Mookhey also attended. Actor and model Saroni Roy later praised the event on social media, describing Deepavali as the Festival of Lights. She linked the celebration to Hindu Heritage Month and called for peace and understanding between communities.
Adelaide's Parliament House welcomed guests on 14 October for a reception marking Deepavali and Annakut, two Hindu observances centred on gratitude and devotion. Hosted by South Australian Multicultural Affairs Minister Nadia Clancy, the gathering drew members of the Hindu Council of Australia's South Australian chapter. Organisers presented the festivals' spiritual teachings, which emphasise light, hope, unity and harmony. The chapter thanked Ms Clancy and local partner groups, including BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha Adelaide, and reaffirmed its commitment to interfaith understanding. The event precedes Adelaide's Biggest Deepavali Festival at the Adelaide Showground, which promises performances, traditional festivities and family entertainment.
