New name revealed for Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway Ramp

The Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway Ramp has been officially named Patyegarang, after a Cammeraygal woman who helped bridge colonial and Indigenous communities. The name was chosen through a collaborative process with local Aboriginal community members. Transport for NSW has also unveiled new bronze signage and a cyclist counter board, which shows live usage statistics. The ramp's opening in January has led to a 30% increase in cycleway usage, averaging 1,600 daily riders over the past six months.

'Tyranny of distance' weighs against big cycling call

Cadel Evans says it would be possible for a Grand Tour cycling stage to start in Australia, though the distance is a major hurdle. Tour Down Under race director Stuart O'Grady has been trying to attract Tadej Pogačar to Adelaide for several years. Pogačar's manager recently visited and spoke well of the race. If Pogačar returned, he would likely also race at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Geelong. Evans also praised Pogačar's record of success.

"Come out and take a look for yourselves."

Wheelchair user and bike rider Dion Woodward has invited State Election candidates in Frankston, Carrum and Hastings to experience the difficulties of a missing shared user path link along Fletcher Road. He says paths often end suddenly, crossings are difficult and busy traffic makes trips unsafe, including for support workers. A connection there would close one of the largest gaps in Frankston's network, linking the city centre with education and health destinations. Frankston City Council has committed $5.85 million to five shared user path projects, including Fletcher Road, and is asking candidates to match that funding.

Kicked to the kerb: Council considers major shake-up to parking in Perth’s CBD

The City of Perth is considering a policy that would give cyclists, pedestrians, public transport and loading zones priority over private vehicle parking on its kerbside. The proposal is due before a council policy committee on October 19. It would allow street space used for parking to be reallocated to bike lanes, outdoor dining, street trees and business servicing. The policy divides the city into six kerbside zones, with different priorities for each area based on local needs. Changes would consider public transport, traffic, safety and emergency vehicle access.
