Dallas has struggled defensively since Micah Parsons left the club in a trade, despite adding several new players. The Cowboys have given up 27.2 points per game across their first five matches, still ranking among the NFL's weakest units. Their pass defence has allowed ten touchdowns without a single interception, while their run defence concedes close to 170 yards per game, the league's most generous figure. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker, previously praised for his work with Philadelphia, has yet to reverse the slide.
The Green Bay Packers look to be the bigger winners of the Micah Parsons trade, even though he has not yet played this season after a major knee injury. Parsons has played in 14 of the Packers' 23 games since the August trade from Dallas. Green Bay's pass defence has held up well without him, ranking fifth in passing yards allowed per game. Dallas, meanwhile, has struggled badly on defence, with only five sacks in five games and a last-place ranking against the run this season.
Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater has listed his Townsville home for $1.15 million ahead of his departure to the St George Illawarra Dragons. The five-bedroom house in Hermit Park is being marketed by agent Tammy Tyrrell. Drinkwater was released from the final year of his Cowboys contract, and both clubs released statements on April 25. The couple bought the home in December 2022 for $762,500, according to public property records.
The Dallas Cowboys' defence drew sharp criticism from fans and commentators after a poor showing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. Tampa Bay entered the game winless and starting undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels at quarterback. Even so, the Cowboys struggled to stop their offence. Tampa Bay ran up long drives in the first half, and several mistakes in the third quarter led to further scores. Critics questioned defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who is only five games into his role. Dallas also entered the game ranked 28th in points allowed.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers produced their longest opening drive in years against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. Quarterback Jalon Daniels, starting in place of the injured Baker Mayfield, completed all eight of his passes and gained 60 yards of offense on the drive. The Cowboys were penalised for 25 yards along the way. Bucky Irving scored on a second-and-goal play to level the score at seven apiece. The drive took about 11 minutes, the longest by elapsed time for Tampa Bay since 2007. Dallas entered the game conceding 28.0 points per game, the fourth-worst mark in the league.
