Show up and show off at Club Tamborine

Club Tamborine is bringing back its Halloween Party and Melbourne Cup Luncheon, encouraging locals to dress up. Events coordinator Helen McAteer says adults often enjoy Halloween and welcome the chance to join in. Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed, including staff's choice and people's choice, and a costume parade is planned at both events. The Halloween Party runs on October 30 from 5.30pm to 8pm, followed by live music from local band Lock Stock & Blues until 11pm. The Melbourne Cup Luncheon is on November 3 from 11.30am, with tickets at $90 per person.

Ballet wigmaker reflects on her 'very niche' and unusual career

West Australian Ballet head of wigs and makeup Rebecca Bank is one of only a few people in the state who make wigs for shows for a living. Her handmade wigs, mostly from human hair, can take weeks to complete and cost about $5,000 each. Dancers must be able to change wigs in under two minutes off-stage. Since February, 18 students at Perth's North Metropolitan TAFE have been learning wigmaking, costume, special effects and makeup, with lecturer Delia Stanley saying the course lets young wigmakers work in WA.
