A run of community theatre productions across Melbourne's south-east and surrounds is listed through to early 2027. Shows include Cock at the Shirley Burke Theatre in Parkdale until October 31, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at Malvern Theatre until November 7. Titanic the Musical is staged at the Geoffrey McComas Theatre, Scotch College, Hawthorn, from December 3 to 12. Several groups are also holding auditions, including Essendon Theatre Company's Seventeen and The Basin Theatre's Midnight Murder at Hamlington Hall. Tickets and bookings are handled by each individual company.
The SPAT Film Society will screen its final film of the year, My Brother's Band, at the Stanwell Park CWA Hall on Saturday, October 31, at 7:30pm. The 2024 French comedy drama is directed by Emmanuel Courcol. Doors open at 7pm with a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles. Auditions for the group's annual pantomime, Save the Moon: A Cheesy Pantomime, drew more than 30 primary and high school students, along with adult performers. Parts are available for adults and children, and a stage craft workshop will be held before rehearsals begin.
The Arcadians Theatre Group will keep fundraising to upgrade its Miner's Lamp Theatre in Corrimal after a state grant application was unsuccessful. The 62-year-old group was told that meeting National Construction Code standards would cost almost $2 million. Its GoFundMe campaign has raised less than $20,000. The grant application included letters from young members and a plan for community events, which now cannot go ahead at the theatre. The group's next production, Crazy for You, opens on November 6.

The future of the Goldfields Repertory Club remains uncertain as volunteers work to raise $6.5 million to rebuild its run-down Brookman Street theatre. The 95-year-old club received $50,000 of the $97,000 it asked for from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Vice-president Norma Latchford said the club will now approach local companies for support. Significant deterioration has ruled out renovation, so a full rebuild is the only option. A $50,000 grant will fund a $195,000 project to prepare construction plans, which would allow the club to seek larger grants.
