Premier Coal gives employees redundancy forms ahead of move to close night shifts

Premier Coal will move its Collie mine to day shifts only, a change the Western Australian government says it is disappointed by. Unions say the move could cut about 40 per cent of the workforce, or around 150 jobs. Management has handed out forms for voluntary redundancies. The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union says redundancy payments will be calculated at day shift rates, removing the night shift component. An energy analyst says the change should not cause power blackouts in the state.

Renergi Update

Between 30 September and 7 October 2026, 6.92 tonnes of food organics and garden organics waste from the Collie townsite were delivered to the Renergi facility for initial processing trials. Renergi says the trials were successful and achieved a positive outcome. The Shire of Collie supports the project, which it says is an important step towards reducing waste sent to landfill. The project also supports future plans for the Collie Waste Facility and complements the continued servicing of Renergi through imported material streams.
